El Paso Water’s Jonathan Rogers Water Treatment Plant and Robert Bustamante Wastewater Treatment Plant had generator control systems built independently and years apart, leaving the two plants inconsistent to operate. Building on earlier work that brought the generators into automatic mode, CEI standardized the operator interfaces and HMIs across the plants, updating screens for consistency and upgrading the Bustamante HMI hardware and software. Programming was both individualized and combined across the systems, protective-relay design was provided for the Bustamante plant, and CEI trained operators — giving the utility consistent, standardized generator controls that streamline start-up during load-shed events.
